Policy Lab
CITIZEN CENTRED POLICY MAKING, UK
Policy Lab is an explorative, design-driven space inside the UK Cabinet Office.
It provides a space for civil servants to explore a collaborative approach to policy-making, through the use of user-centred techniques and digital tools, creating a low risk testing ground for new ideas, enabling innovation within the government.

The challenge
Traditionally policy has been made by a selected group of experts, behind closed doors, backed up by data yet away from the public.
This way of making policy not only hinders government's ability to innovate but also leads to a disconnection with the reality of the citizens.
How might we help policy-makers create more innovative and human policies to respond to the citizens' needs?

The outcome
My work in the Policy Lab consisted of developing tools, research materials, methodologies and service prototypes, to build a framework of innovation and public service design.
The methodologies and events we run with the Policy Lab provided a creative environment for policy-makers to expand their knowledge and range of tools to develop better, more human centred policies.
